Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is an American-born British sitarist and musician. She received the British House of Commons' Shield, which is the youngest and also the first female recipient. Apart from the nine Grammy awards, she was also the very first Indian-origin musician to present at and perform during the ceremony live. Anoushka Shankar is one of India's most promising stars on the sitar. She is the student of Ravi Shankar, and the daughter. Her childhood was spent bouncing around from London and New Delhi. Her debut concert was at New Delhi at the tender 13 years old. After that, she moved in Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha even though she is just a teenager, has had an impressive recording and performing career. She has been performing with her father on stage for many years. In 1998, she debuted her debut single album Anourag. She released the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album a year later. Apart from performing in many of the biggest venues, she also has a long stage career. Anoushka isn't just a performer. Bapi The Love of My Life is a illustrated biographical work that she composed in 2002. The book pays tribute to her father who died in the year 2000. Ravi Shankar. In addition, she acted in a movie in 2003. The role she played was that of as a Bharat Nayam dancer on Dance Like a Man. Anoushka is continuing to advance in her career and we can expect many new things that will be coming from this talented woman. Anoushka was a frequent traveler and spent lots of traveling between London and Delhi throughout her childhood. Later, she moved to California to finish high school. From the age of nine she began studying music under her father, who made her debut with the sitar 4 years later, at the celebration of his 75th birthday in Delhi. Anoushka performed with her father during his world tour, gained an impressive number of experiences. In her teenage years she performed at Carnegie Hall as part of Peter Gabriel's WOMAD as well as recorded with George Harrison. In recognition of being one of the top musicians in Asian Arts, she was given the House of Commons Shield by British parliament.
